Rules for Alchemical Items
Usage of alchemical items adheres to the following rules in The Arena:
- Only one alchemical effect may be active at once. If a character uses a second alchemical item, it ends any ongoing effects from other alchemical sources. For example, if a character quaffed a Potion of Heroism then later sprinkled on some Dust of Disappearance, the character would turn invisible, but lose the effects of the Potion of Heroism. Alchemical healing items ignore this restriction. Quaffing a Potion of Healing will not cancel ongoing effects from other alchemical sources.
- Only a character who purchases an alchemical item may benefit from it. A character may not purchase potions for distribution, and anyone using someone else's alchemical item will experience no effect. Alchemical healing items are an exception to this and may be used to benefit other characters, including all types of Potion of Healing, Keoghtam's Ointment, and Potions of Vitality, though they still may not be distributed. These same restrictions apply to alchemical items received as treasure awards; only the recipient may benefit from it following item distribution.
- Effects from alchemical items may not be dispelled via a dispel magic spell.
